The Bureau of Land
Management issues 10 passes per day into "The Wave" on a first-come, first-serve
basis. Openings for each day's passes become available six months in advance and
these passes are taken almost instantly. Another 10 passes per day become
available by lottery one day in advance, but are issued only at the local BLM
office on Highway 89 (between mile posts 25 & 26, about halfway between Kanab
and Page).
The trailhead for "The Wave" is located at the Wirepass trailhead area about
8 miles south of Highway 89 on House Rock Valley Road. Wirepass also
serves as the trailhead into Buckskin Gulch - another beautiful area to hike
into.
For those of you with a GPS system, the coordinates for The Wave
(as provided by the BLM) are:
36 degrees 59 minutes 47 seconds north
112 degrees 0 minutes 26 seconds west
I hope you enjoy my photos of Arizona.

The rock formations in the area of the wave are surreal and
bizarre. Colors, textures, and patterns are so varied and complex.

These photos were taken with a Canon
EOS 20D digital SLR camera shooting in the RAW mode. I've attempted to
reproduce the colors as realistically as possible. However, color rendition
does vary significantly from monitor to monitor. Rest assured, if these
photos don't look beautiful, the reality is.

Another scene in the vicinity of the wave
|
There is an area near the Wave that is now being
called the Wave Two. I haven't strictly separated Wave One from Wave Two
in labeling these photos. Both areas are virtually back to back, so once
in the area of the wave, explore the area. But if you go to the wave, you
won't need that kind of instruction from me. You'll just naturally want to
explore this area.
